Reply: Working Together for a More Inclusive Student Association

In the latest issue of K7 Bulletin, Kennedy House raised important points about the inclusion of international students at NHH and within NHHS. The article was divided into two parts, and this response concerns the section addressing NHHS.

This is a reply from the Executive Board of NHHS, regarding the article "NHH is Failing their International Students", published 10.11.2025.

An Evolving Student Association

We recognize the bigger shifts happening at NHH. The school has become a more global institution, with students joining us from around the world. When students become more diverse; it is natural that NHHS becomes increasingly international. This is a priority we are fully committed to.

It is unfortunate to hear that international students feel excluded or disconnected from NHHS. Over the past few years, NHHS has made a number of improvements to strengthen inclusion through accessibility, but we recognize that there is still a way to go. Constructive criticism such as this article, helps us to continue building a better and more inclusive organization.

Language and Communication

Inclusion begins with language. In the past years, communication has been one of NHHS’ key priorities, and we have already seen significant changes across our platforms.

Almost all of the communication from the Executive Board is now in English, and we actively encourage other groups in NHHS to use English when communicating to a broader audience. Important forums like the General Assemblies for NHHS and NHHI have adapted to using English as the main language, in order to make it accessible for all students.

We recognize that change is a continuous process, and that there is room for improvement. Furthermore, we share the opinion regarding marketing of open events. We will continue the marketing of open events in English and clearly stating what language the event will be held in; we encourage all groups to do the same. In NHHS’ new long-term strategy — valid from 2026 — communication remains a key focus area.

Representation and Participation

When developing the new long-term strategy, we aimed to reach as wide a range of students as possible. Open hearings were held in English, and interviews were conducted with all subcommittees across the organization. It is therefore regrettable if some still feel unrepresented. Our intention has always been to ensure that everyone has their say in shaping the direction of NHHS.

We are aware of the challenges surrounding knowledge transfers and onboarding in NHHS — which creates a barrier for engagement. This is an area that has been given renewed attention in the long-term strategy, and we are currently working on a bigger measure to support this in 2026.

Looking Ahead

NHHS is a large organization, and cultural change takes time. But if we look back over the past five years, the transformation has already been significant. We are confident that the coming years will bring even greater progress toward an organization where everyone can participate equally.

That being said, we appreciate the discussion that this article has sparked. Feedback is vital to NHHS’ continued development, and we are grateful to everyone who shares their perspectives. NHHS will continue to work actively to ensure that every student feels included and represented.
